Youth Canada the World (JCM) – Journalists for the Right Human beings (JDH) – SYTO Programs Eco-Leadership Afrique-Canada (PELAC) Journalism and Human Rights In collaboration with JCM, SYTO Benin, SYTO Ivory Coast and SYTO Senegal, JDH set up a program in 2004 youth trilateral called « Journalism and Human Rights » who takes place in Canada (Quebec) as well as in Benin or in the Senegal. Young persons of Canada, Benin and the Senegal had àparticiper in this program. This plan is not only an unique cultural exchanges for the young Canadians, Beninese and Senegalese chosen, but also has a considerable social impact by uniting the domains of the journalism and the right human beings. Structure of program The program of 2006-2007 has its feature to be a South - south program with the cooperation of the Ivory Coast, instead of Canada. Aprés lea selection the participants, two groups will be formed. They will have as course a stay of 3 months in a city in the Benin and a stay of 3 months in the Senegal. Each of the groups will be structured of the façonsuivante: 6 young persons of the Ivory Coast

A supervisor of the Ivory Coast and a supervisor of the Benin (for the staying group or Benin) or from the Senegal (for the group staying in the Senegal)
An equal number of men and women in every team of 6
Every person will be twinned with somebody of another country
Every pair of young persons will live with a family of reception and participate in its daily activities
Every young person will work with a counterpart in the media community or the organisms of right human beings of the country of stay at the rate of 4 days a week
All group will participate in a day of instructive activities a week The young persons will develop attitudes and competences and they acquérront knowledge such as: Adaptation

Job of team
Sense of the organization and sense of responsibilities
Mind of analysis
Resolution of problems
Resolution of conflicts
Right human beings
Journalism Criteria of selection: Being of Senegalese nationality
Be between 18 and 27 year old
Have a training in communication or in journalism (or be in process of supplementing it) or an appropriate experience in the one or other one of these domains
Have an interest supported as questions raising right human beings
Have a good workmanship of French Contents of program: The joint program of JCM, SYTO and JDH is not aimed unique at benefiting in the youth of the Ivory Coast, the Benin and the Senegal but also in communities within which will take place plans. The young persons will work with a variety of media institutions: newspapers, radios, televisions (Community or others), ONG, governmental agencies, Community groups or others. By working in different environments, every young person will bring to the group of experiments and different perspectives. Examples of partners:

The plans of the young persons concentrate on subjects linked up with mass media and with right human beings. Following subjects will be able to be approached through the days of instructive activities in which the young persons will participate:
What are the right human beings? Is there an universal definition of the right human beings?
Stakes and realities of the right human beings in the different countries
Human categorized and right groups
Who are mass media? What are their roles?
Rights and duties of mass media and journalists
Obstacles to a quality information on the right human beings
Institutions and national mechanisms of protection of the right human beings in Canada, in Benin and in the Senegal

Photocopies of certificates and acquired certificates * *The eccentrics will have to be introduced at the latest a week after interviews for the discreet candidates. Besides, the candidates who work will have to produce: A working certificate
A certificate of availability signed by their actual employer for the duration of the program to be known from September, 2006 till March, 2007 (6 months). Besides, all participants will have to promise written to respect the essential elements of program for the duration of the program, including Senegalese stage (for the participants whose second stage is envisaged in Dakar). These elements are: stay in family of reception (different from its natural family), involvement in a working plan (different from the habitual workplace for the participants being already in the service of an employer) and participation in the days of instructive activities. Selection Selection will be made on file and will be followed by activity of group and an interview. It will be kept 12 participants on the official list and 04 participants on the list of wait (reservists). All discreet participants (16) will inevitably have to follow all activities pre-orientation envisaged up to the getting of the visa, which will confirm the défnitive list of the participants to take part really in program. Financial participation The discreet participants (official list and reservists) will have to make a collection of fund of a sum of frank hundred and fifty thousand CFA (150 000 Fcfa) as personal commitment for their participation in this program. They will have to deposit a not repayable advance of thirty frank thousand CFA (30 000 Fcfa) just aprés the publication of the official list for the opening of the file. Supplementary benefit will have to be poured at the latest on June 30th, 2006. To note that one will take care of all expenses of program: international transport, accommodation and food in family of reception, spending money during both stages of program. NB: Paid supplementary benefit will be reimbursed to the participants who will not finally take part of this program
